Veer's debut as Cloud9 head coach opened with a Haven win over LOUD, then Cloud9 dropped the next two maps 8-13 apiece to lose the series, extending their skid to seven straight.
Immi's gone, and Cloud9 lost anyway.
Riot's most miserable roster of 2026 benched head coach Immi on July 28 and handed the reins to his assistant, Veer, after a 5-11 season and six straight losses. Three days later Veer got his first game, Haven against LOUD, and Cloud9 actually opened it right. 13-8. First time in a while I watched a Cloud9 map and thought, okay, maybe this is the reset. Then Sunset happened. Then Summit happened. 8-13 both times. Series over, 1-2, streak now at seven.
Is the Coach Actually the Problem?
I don't think it was ever really about Immi. Tactical Rab said it well in his rundown of the move: this roster's been through Vic leaving and coming back, Oxi stepping away and returning, Zepper gone, Fireball and Jack in. That's not a coaching staff issue, that's a team that hasn't had a stable identity in months. Benching Immi is the easy move because it's the one Riot notices on a partnership review. It says "we're trying" without touching the harder question of whether this roster fits together at all.
The Haven Map Is the Cruelest Part
If Cloud9 just got run over 13-8, 13-8, 13-8, this is a non-story, bad team loses badly, day ends. Instead they won map one clean, then dropped Sunset and Summit 8-13 each, just 16 rounds won across 42 played the rest of the way. That's not a talent gap. That's a team that still doesn't know how to close.
Veer's honeymoon lasted one map. The real test isn't this weekend, it's whether Cloud9 looks any different by week five.
