Seven straight losses coming in, a benched head coach, a new one who lost his own debut a week ago, and the team that finally ends the run is 100 Thieves, the only squad in Group Omega that hadn't dropped a series all stage. Cloud9 swept them 2-0.
Why This One and Not an Easier Spot
That's what makes this different from a routine group-stage split. 100 Thieves came in unbeaten, reigning EWC champions, fresh off making Sentinels look lost the week before. If Cloud9 was ever going to snap the streak, the schedule said it should've happened against someone worse. Instead they picked the hardest matchup on the board to finally look like a team again.
What Actually Changes Here
One win doesn't erase a season. I said it after Veer's coaching debut ended in a loss to LOUD: the real test wasn't that weekend, it was whether Cloud9 looked different by week five. This is week four, and for one night, the answer is yes. The bigger question is whether that's a real turn or 100 Thieves just having their first bad night of the stage. Teams that go a month unbeaten usually have one of those buried in them somewhere.
I'll Take It Anyway
After watching this roster get run over by LOUD a week ago, I'm not going to overthink a sweep of the group's best team. Cloud9 needed one game where they looked like they belonged out there. They picked a strange one to get it, but they got it.
