Heretics Are 0-2 to Start Stage 2. The ACL Excuse Is Gone.

Team Heretics opened EMEA Stage 2 with a loss to Team Liquid, their third straight disappointing result since the EWC quarterfinal exit.

Team Heretics lost to Team Liquid in their EMEA Stage 2 opener. A clean sweep, no third map to steal it back in. Nine days after BBL Esports ended their EWC title defense in the quarterfinal, the reigning champs are now 0-1 in the league that actually matters for Champions qualification.

I Already Called This

When BBL eliminated Heretics at EWC, I pointed at head coach Neilzinho calling games remotely while recovering from a torn ACL, and said a remote coach can call good rounds but can't be in the room to reset a team live. That was the group stage and quarterfinal. Now it's happened again, in a completely different event, against a completely different opponent. Two data points was a pattern. Three is a trend.

The Roster Isn't the Problem

Heretics run it back with Boo, RieNs, Wo0t, and benjyfishy, plus ComeBack in for the new Duelist spot after a strong 2025 Challengers run. That's not a roster in crisis. Individually these are players who won a title with this exact coaching staff less than a year ago. Whatever's breaking down isn't talent.

What Actually Changes This

Neilzinho's ACL recovery has a timeline. Until he's back on-site, every close map is a coin flip Heretics can't call live. The EWC excuse was "he's rehabbing, give it time." Stage 2 doesn't get that grace period. Lose your way out of groups here and there's no trophy to point to next season, just a defending champion watching Champions from home.

One league loss isn't a crisis. But it's the third result in a row that fits the exact shape I flagged after the EWC exit, and at some point that stops being bad luck.
