BESTIA Almost Crashed the Play-Ins Party. KRÜ Barely Shut the Door.

Day one of VCT Americas Play-Ins split down the middle: BESTIA took a map off KRÜ before falling 2-1, while ENVY never let M80 breathe in a clean 2-0.

Josh

Play-Ins opened Wednesday with a first for the franchise era: four teams that climbed up through pure Challengers leagues sharing a bracket with eight partnered orgs, all fighting for the same handful of Champions Shanghai slots. BESTIA, M80, Fluxo W7M, and 2Game Esports earned their way in with zero franchise safety net. Day one's answer to "can they actually hang" came out messier than either side wanted.

BESTIA Made KRÜ Sweat

BESTIA took Breeze off KRÜ 13-3. Not a close round difference, a beatdown, and for a second it looked like the bracket's first real Challengers upset was happening live. KRÜ answered on Sunset, 13-1, and closed it out on Summit, 13-6, to survive 2-1. Survive is the word I'd use. You don't drop a map by ten rounds to a team that spent the whole season outside the franchise system and call that a comfortable night.

Then M80 Got Run Over

Same day, completely different story. ENVY took Ascent 13-5 and Split 13-11 and never really let M80 find a foothold, with keznit named MVP of the sweep. Two Challengers teams, two very different Play-Ins debuts within a few hours of each other.

Where I Land

This is exactly why Play-Ins is more interesting than the group stage it replaced. BESTIA taking a map off a Group Stage team means something even in a loss, and it's the kind of result that should make whoever draws them next actually prepare. M80 getting run over means the gap is still real for some of these rosters, just not all of them. Fluxo W7M debuts tonight with the La Masia core they signed six days before their first match. If BESTIA's Breeze got a read on the room, that one's worth watching too.
