EG opened Stage 2 tied for first in Group Alpha. One week later they got run off both maps.
LEVIATÁN beat Evil Geniuses 2-0 on July 23, and it wasn't close. Split went 13-5. Sunset went 13-5. Same scoreline twice in one series is its own kind of message: whatever EG walked in with, LEV had an answer for it before the round even ended. Watching it back, the pattern was obvious by the midpoint of map one. LEV's mid control choked EG's setups site by site, and once that hold was gone, EG had no second read.
The Standings Do the Talking
EG beat ENVY in week one and sat tied at the top of Group Alpha. That's gone now. They drop to 1-1, and the group got messier for everyone below them too. MIBR did the same thing to ENVY that same day, 13-4 and 13-3. It wasn't just EG having a bad night. Group Alpha's bottom half got run over in the same 24 hours.
What I Actually Take From This
One blowout doesn't erase week one. NRG showed it's possible to fall behind big and still win the series, down 2-10 on Breeze against MIBR and still closing it out 2-1. EG didn't have that fight in them here, and that's the part that worries me more than the scoreline. A 13-5 loss is a bad map. Two of them back to back is a team that got solved and had no adjustment ready. Stage 2 group play is long, but EG needs one of the next matches to look like a response, not a repeat.
