ENVY Ended Sentinels' Run. Four Days Later, MIBR Did the Same to Them.

MIBR beat ENVY 2-1 in Friday's Play-Ins Upper Semifinal. Four days after ENVY did the exact same thing to Sentinels, they're the ones staring down the lower bracket now.

The Symmetry Is Kind of Perfect

I wrote last week that ENVY had ended Sentinels' shot at the upper bracket, and that Sentinels' only road to Shanghai now ran through the hard way, best-of-three after best-of-three starting from the bottom. Nobody told ENVY that lesson applies to them too. One round later, they're the ones who lost their Upper Semifinal and got dropped into the exact grind they just put someone else through. Play-Ins doesn't care who you beat last week.

MIBR Needed the Distance

This one went the full three maps, and it wasn't clean. MIBR gave up Sunset, a map they've looked shaky on all split, before ENVY made them work for the rest of the series too. It came down to the final map, and Tex closed it with a four-kill round to punch MIBR's ticket through. That's the kind of individual moment that erases a rough map from the box score. Nobody remembers Sunset if you win the series.

Where I Land

ENVY looked like the confident team a week ago, the one making someone else sweat elimination math. Now they're the ones doing the sweating. Sentinels proved you can survive the lower bracket grind and still be alive for Shanghai, so this isn't a death sentence. But it's a very different Monday for ENVY than the one they were planning on.
