Keiko Replaced a Champions Piece, Then Won NRG's Stage 2 Opener MVP
NRG clawed back from 2-10 down on Breeze to beat MIBR 2-1 in the Americas Stage 2 opener, and new duelist keiko walked away with MVP.
keiko's job this year was never going to be easy. He's replacing s0m, the guy who ran NRG's smokes through their Champions run in Paris, and stepping into a roster that just won a world title. Stage 2 opener against MIBR was his first real answer to "can this guy actually do it," and NRG made him earn it the hard way: down 2-10 on Breeze with the series already 0-1.
The Breeze Save Is the Whole Story
MIBR took Sunset 13-9, no real drama there. Breeze looked like it was heading the same direction fast, NRG down 2-10 and looking like a team about to open 0-2. Then they just didn't lose another one that mattered. Round after round back, they clawed it to 13-11 and forced a decider. That's not a stat line, that's a team refusing to go down in their first series of the stage. Summit was the formality after that, 13-4, and by the time it ended keiko had the MVP: 227 ACS, 152 ADR, 77.8% KAST across the series.
Is He the Guy?
One series doesn't answer that. s0m was a franchise piece for years, and keiko spent his 2025 season flexing onto smokes for Team Liquid in EMEA, a different assignment than the one he's got now as NRG's new duelist. But if the bar for game one was "don't let the seat feel empty," he cleared it by a mile. NRG were ten rounds from an 0-2 start to their season, and instead they're 1-0 with the new guy holding the trophy.
Stage 2 is long. Ask me about keiko again in September. Today, though, the numbers don't lie.
