ENVY Ended Sentinels' Shot. Now It's the Hard Way.

I wrote last week that Sentinels needed to actually show up in this round instead of getting more excuses made for them. They didn't. ENVY took them 2-0, 13-10 on Ascent and 13-3 on Summit, and that second number is the one that stings. Summit is a Sentinels comfort map. JonahP said in his post-match interview they "haven't lost on Summit yet" in scrims all split. They lost it by ten rounds when it counted.

What Actually Broke

JonahP didn't dress it up. He called the comms "really poor," said the team felt "scared and too confident at the same time," and admitted he didn't fully know why. That's the part that worries me more than the scoreline. Losing to a better-prepared team is one thing. Losing without being able to explain the loss, on the back of a skid that's now bled out of group play and into Play-Ins, is a pattern, not a bad night.

Jerwin was the one bright spot. JonahP called him out as basically the only player who showed up individually, which is a rough thing to be true about your newest starter in a match this heavy.

The Math Is Brutal Now

Points-wise, Sentinels are done. The only door left to Champions Shanghai is winning out: six more best-of-threes through the lower bracket, then a best-of-five lower final. It starts Thursday against 2Game Esports, a team that climbed up through pure Challengers with zero franchise safety net. Lose that and the season ends in the exact round BESTIA nearly wrote a fairy tale in.

Where I Land

I said I'd hit my limit on excuses for this roster, and I'm not walking that back. But I'm not writing them off either. Reducts has never played a best-of-five in his career and might have to win one to save the season. That's the kind of pressure that either breaks a young player or makes him. Thursday tells me which.
